SmartXX V3 Solderless Install (V1.0 V1.5)

It is important to note that when installing the Smartxx V3, that you must NOT remove the D0 tab (called Remove D0).

If you have removed this by accident, then for a solderless install you will have to bridge the 'recover D0' points on the back of the chip.

Remove the six screws on the bottomside of your box:

Unplug the two cables of the harddisk (yellow arrows)
Remove the three screws of your DVD-Drive (green arrows)

Remove the harddisk carefully
Unplug the two cables of your DVD-Drive (yellow arrows)

Remove the screw next to the LPC.
There is no need to remove the motherboard from the case

Postad bild

Align the Solderless adapter in place over the LPC.
There is no need to connect the D0 wire at this stage.

Postad bild

Using the correct sized Philips screwdriver, screw the solderless adapter to the motherboard using the supplied screw. Do not tighten TOO much as you can easily strip the thread

Here is a shot of the solderless adapter installed taken from above.

Note in the image below how the solderless adapter should sit. The plastic should be flush with the motherboard, and not have any gaps with pins showing.

Now for that pesky D0 point. Lift the D0 wire and slot into the hole - now just push it down. You may feel the wire bend a little but you should also feel it "clicking" into the D0 via hole

Postad bild

Attention ! There are two different versions ! D0 point for version 1.0 and 1.1

Postad bild

D0 point for version 1.2 to 1.5

Postad bild

Connect the provided DVD power cable into the motherboard and the black/red cable into J7 of the Smartxx chip.

Postad bild

Now plug your new SmartXX on the pinheader
(make sure it is around the right way - use pic for reference)

Postad bild

Now plug in the power and turn on, you should see a blue light flash from the chip, this means all is installed correctly.
Remove the power, and re-assemble xbox.

And that is it, enjoy!

I'd like to buy a chip like this, for a solder-less install on an old xbox.
Where can I find one?
Didn't rejoy.se have these for sale just a few months ago?

yes you are correct, unfortunately they have been sold out and it is hard, if not impossible, to find new ones since they arent manufactured anymore.
